As a licensed inventor whose work has been recognized by a rare "CRS Report for Congress" and through a license with LexisNexis that has resulted in an insurance exchange making American business more competitive and efficient, I urge you to vote against this bill - or, at a minimum, remove the Schumer amendment which grants even more advantage to big banks against the small inventor.
Bad enough we have thieves running businesses now we don't need any beyond our boardes. Do the right thing forf a change instead of expecting a pay off of some sort for doing what you wwere put in office for.
First to file is a horrid concept. Now we have to patent every mundane trivial concept before we can determine it's value. What a waste of time. Moreover, we can no longer innovate as filing takes huge percentage of our time. This will only promote patent law suits made by intellectual property firms that never do the research to even back the claims in their patents.
So our very own elected wants a general dumbing down of its people... wants to pull our inventive pinnings from under us... the weak minds that are getting into our most trusted elected positions need to know the people will do what it takes to educate themselves and take action against shortsightedness in government. 'For the people' will truly come to mean 'by the people' as we gain greater means to participate and execute the checks and balances on those who govern us... issue by issue America will arm its citizens to take its rightful place as governing chair... This is the first issue I've stepped out on to sign a petition. It well deserves our attention, to secure our future way of life.

I am an inventor (product developer) and do this for a living. This bill if passed will mean death for my profession, because it makes stealing inventions that are in the works (where details aren't yet worked out) open to theft from others who might see what your working on. Here is an example, I've completed most of my invention, but have one more aspect to figure out before I apply for my patent. I show my invention to a company that makes the piece I need. The next day someone at that company applies for a patent using my design. Previously, I would have plenty of evidence to stop this theft. Now, the person who steals the idea is in the clear. The law is on his side. This is a gimmick to benefit the big corporations with deep pockets. It will destroy the engine of our economy (which is small scale innovation). Most people don't realize, the majority of inventions that come down the pike (even from large companies) start out in someones shop. Most companies that hire product developers use them to create a finished product off the ideas they buy from the mom and pops like me. True innovation requires alot of experimentation even on the basic idea before it can be deemed possible and profitable. That means the note book phase (when notes are used to prove first invented) is the most critical to prove you were working on the basic concept first.
They said "don't worry about all the smokestacks closed down and moved to China and Mexico. Americans will get knowledge jobs." Except now Congress is gutting the rights of American inventors on behalf of big banks and foreign governments. Stop it NOW.
Please keep the value of inventions with the individual. This is one of the things that makes America great. Anyone with an idea can patent it and be the financial beneficiary of their intellect.
Part of the reason Americans innovate is the potential reward in making a great product or service that is a game changer. If patent reform makes it more difficult to protect innovation, it means receiving your justly earned rewards may be impossible. Why innovate then? In a time of economic despair, we must encourage all possible forms of innovation.
We need to allow in country protection and competition, the same as took place with Edison and Tesla. Edison held patents on Direct Current systems, while Westinghouse held patents on Alternating Current, bought from Tesla, so the world now relies on A C power.
All because after coming up with a simple, reliable, reasonably-efficient and sensible method of generating, transmitting, and using electricity, Tesla sold the patents to George Westinghouse.
